Verification and KYC

Verification gives buyers a stronger trust signal about the sellers they contact. Torra checks government-issued identity numbers through its KYC partner and awards a verified badge to approved sellers.

What gets checked

Verification reviews the identity details you submit during onboarding.

  • Legal name — compared against your ID record.
  • Government ID — a National Identification Number (NIN) or Bank Verification Number (BVN), verified through Youverify.
  • Business registration (optional) — business sellers can add CAC registration details for a business verification signal.
  • Real estate documentation — agents must submit agent and property documentation; approval is required before listing.

How to complete verification, step by step

Verification happens during the Profile step of seller onboarding and can be updated later from your seller profile.

  1. 1Start seller onboarding (avatar menu → “Become a Seller”) and continue to the Profile step.
  2. 2Enter your full legal name exactly as it appears on your ID — nicknames cause a mismatch.
  3. 3Choose NIN or BVN and enter the 11-digit number exactly as issued.
  4. 4Business sellers: optionally add CAC registration number and director name.
  5. 5Submit for review — you can continue onboarding while it's processed (except real estate).
  6. 6Update details later via “Profile Settings” in the avatar dropdown.

What the badge means — and doesn't

The verified badge is a trust signal, not a guarantee.

  • It means Torra reviewed the seller's submitted identity details and they passed at the time of review.
  • It does not mean Torra inspected, insured, or guarantees any listing.
  • It does not replace your own due diligence before transacting.
  • Badges can be revoked if submitted information is found false or misleading.

Your data

Identity data is handled with care.

  • ID numbers are used for verification checks, not displayed publicly.
  • See the privacy policy and verification policy for the full data-handling details.

Frequently asked questions

Currently NIN (National Identification Number) and BVN (Bank Verification Number), checked through Youverify.

How long does verification take?

Automated checks typically complete quickly; reviews requiring manual attention can take longer. You can continue onboarding while under review unless you're a real estate provider.

Is verification permanent?

No. Torra may review verification periodically or when profile details change significantly, and badges can be revoked for false information. Appeals go through Torra support.
